Welcome to the very first Governor’s Blog post! My name is Vincent King, and I am currently serving as Chair of Governors (Foundation). In an effort for governors to stay connected with parents, we will be writing a blog post once a term that highlights some of the policies and issues that the Governing Body are discussing and monitoring.

What is the role of a School Governor?

Generally, governors take part in strategic discussions about the priorities and targets for the school, as well as ensuring that all children have access to a broad and balanced curriculum. They also hold senior leaders to account by monitoring the school’s performance, and ensure that school staff have the resources and support they require to do their jobs well. In other words, a governor examines the ‘bigger picture’ of the school strategies, structures and vision.

Governor Visits:

Governors are encouraged to make formal visits each year to check that the policies and improvement plans are being implemented, and allow us to see for ourselves how our vision and plans for the school are working in practice. Recent visits have included:

  • Maths
  • PE
  • SEN
  • Growth Mindset

Recently Reviewed Policies:

  • Policies recently reviewed by Governing committees:
  • Anti Bullying
  • Homework
  • Sex and Relationships

These policies and all others are available on our Website, however, if you have any comments or questions please do not hesitate contact the school.

A Note on Safety:

As I imagine everyone is aware, the High Street is becoming increasingly busy during drop off and pick up times. While the Leadership team and Governing body attempt to find ways to improve the situation, can I please ask those driving to school to be extra vigilant and considerate when parking. In particular, please ensure that the layby outside of the school remains clear at all times.

And finally …

If you have any suggestions on what you would like to hear about, or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me directly (vince.king@stcanterbury.herts.sch.uk).
