Applying for a place at our school

St Thomas’ welcomes Catholic and non Catholic children from 3 years.  St Thomas’ is a Voluntary-Aided School, which means the Governors have responsibility for admissions to the school. Please contact the Office Manager to book a visit (tel: 01920 821450).

Applying for a place at our School:

Nursery (Children born between 1st September 2014 and 31st August 2015). Please note that we have a single intake into our Nursery in September.  We also offer 30 hour childcare provision please contact the School Office for further details.

When applying for a Nursery place, you will need to complete an EARLY YEARS APPLICATION FORM – September 2018, available from our website or the School Office between 8th January 2018 and 23rd February 2018.  (Please note that Hertfordshire County Council no longer co-ordinates Nursery Admission therefore you need to apply directly to each school).  You will also need to complete our Supplementary Information Form  or obtain a hard copy from the School Office, and return to the Office along with the Certificate of Catholic Practice and Baptism Certificate if applicable.  (To obtain a Certificate of Catholic Practice, please speak to your Parish Priest.  Please note – the Certificate of Catholic Practice replaces the old Priest’s Reference Form).   Please refer to our 2018/19: Nursery Admissions Policy.

Nursery applications have now closed, however if you have a late application, please contact the School Office.

Key dates for Nursery Applications for 2018/19:

  • 8 January 2018:                           Nursery Applications open
  • 23 February 2018:                       Deadline for Nursery Applications to be received
  • 20 March 2018:                            School advises parents outcome of their Nursery Application
  • 28 March 2018:                            Deadline for parents to accept Nursery place

The Published Admissions Number for Nursery is 15.  Please note that children attending our Nursery are not automatically guaranteed entry into Reception and separate applications must be made.  

When applying for a Reception place, you will need to complete the standard Primary Application Form from Hertfordshire County Council (see www.hertsdirect.org/admissions).  In addition you will need to download and complete a Supplementary Information Form 2018-19 or obtain a hard copy from the School Office.  To obtain a Certificate of Catholic Practice, please speak to your Parish Priest.  Please note – the Certificate of Catholic Practice replaces the old Priest’s Reference Form.   

The Supplementary Information Form should be returned to the School Office, together with a completed Certificate of Catholic Practice and copy of Baptism Certificate (if applicable).  These forms should be returned by the closing date of application in the academic year prior to the child starting Nursery/Reception.

In Year Admissions:

For all in year applicants,  application forms should be returned to the School Office at the same time as applying online – http://www.hertsdirect.org/services/edlearn/admissions/inyear/.   In addition you will need to download and complete an In Year Supplementary Information Form (SIF) and obtain a Certificate of Catholic Practice from your Parish Priest  (if applicable).  A hard copy of the Supplementary Information Form is available from the School Office.

Eligibility for Free School Meals and Pupil Premium:

If you are currently receiving benefits, your child may be entitled to Free School Meals and additional funding for support in school through Pupil Premium.  If you think this may apply and you would like to find out more, please contact the School Office for further details.
